Photography has been a passion of mine since my mum first let me get my hands on the old Kodak Box Brownie our family used to take on holiday. Predominantly self-taught, I've been fortunate that my work over the years has enabled me to travel extensively, building up a rich & varied portfolio. During my time in corporate hospitality at the World Superbikes series, I used every spare moment to meet up with the assembled professional photographers who were very generous with their time, tutoring me between races. I soon realised that I had a talent which I should pursue at a professional level. So far my clients agree.
I moved to Brighton in 1987. Since then I've spent 14 years travelling around the globe, always returning to Brighton, which is the place I now feel most at home. Even when compared to all the exotic locations I've visited, Brighton & Hove is wonderfully photogenic, abundant with obvious & not so obvious detail. There are however, a myriad photographers in our city, so what makes me think I'm so special? A simple answer: People. People who tell me I've captured exactly how they felt when they visited that place. People who tell me I've captured a side they'd never seen before. People who say "I walk past that everyday, and I'd never noticed how wonderful it is". So I have a good eye. Lesser known perhaps, but maybe just as useful, is that I also have a bad eye. A surgical error during my childhood left me mainly blind in one eye, and so my vision is 2-dimensional. Most photographers are busy trying to translate their 3 dimensional vision into a 2 dimensional picture. For the majority of my life I've striven to bring out an extra dimension in everything I see & naturally this enriches my work.
